Match Recap:
The Exeter boys tennis team started the season with a good win against a team which went to the Semi-finals last season. Exeter defeated Central 9-0, with ten players getting into the action. Tyler Russ, Jack Darmody, Kenny Schleicher, and Ryan Posternak each won their first Varsity match of their careers. At #3 singles, Freshmen Ryan Posternak had the closest match of the day winning 9-7. Trailing 6-7, Ryan showed some early season mental toughness by winning the last three games. At #2 singles, Chris Lietz relied on an overpowering forehand to dictate many of the points, leading to a 8-2 win. At #1 singles, Corey Guen won the last five games to win 8-4 against an experienced opponent. After some early trouble at #4 singles, Ty Cloyd got himself into a rhythm and cruised to a 8-3 win. At #5 and #6 singles, Ben MacDonald and Lino Cantarella controlled the match right from the start.
In doubles, Corey Guen and Ty Cloyd showed promised as a legitimate #1 doubles, wining 8-3. Ty’s quick hands at net and Corey’s strong baseline game compliment each other well. Chip McNaughton and Kenny Schleicher teamed up at #2 doubles and won 8-2. Finally, Tyler Russ and Jack Darmody won at #3 doubles. Tyler Russ was impressive at net with volleys and overheads.

Match Recap:
After an hour rain delay, Exeter was able to win its second consecutive match at 9-0, improving their record to 2-0. Corey Guen and Chris Lietz only dropped 3 games combined. Lietz was dominant through out; while Corey had to adjust to a more conservative style of play in the last 5 games. Ty Cloyd, Ben MacDonald, and Lino Cantarella each jumped out to early leads and never looked back. Ryan Posternak had the closest singles match of the day, winning 8-5. Ryan played a solid opponent who did not make many mistakes.
After sweeping singles, Exeter faced a tougher challenge in doubles. At #1 doubles, in the match of the day, Guen and Cloyd trailed 7-5 after losing three straight games. However, Guen and Cloyd were able to win the last four games to win. Guen and Cloyd showed a positive attitude and confidence in each other to prevail. At #2 doubles, Lietz and MacDonald were shaky at the start. After trading games early, Lietz and MacDonald were able to win the last 4 games to win 8-5. MacDonald and Lietz both were strong at net. Finally, at #3 doubles, Cantarella and Posternak cruised to an 8-0 victory. Considering the weather and strong play by Derryfield, Exeter was impressive by winning 9-0.

Match Recap:
Exeter improved to 3-0, winning again 9-0 against Timberlane. The closest match of the day was at #3 singles between Ty Cloyd and his opponent. After leading 5-2, Ty dropped 4 straight games to trail 5-6. But Ty dug deep and stopped momentum, winning the last three games. Jack Darmody played in his first varsity match and won 8-2 at #5 singles. Steady play and understanding his strength were keys for Jack’s victory. Chip McNaughton won his first varsity singles match 8-2. Chip trailed early, but won 7 consecutive games to win.
In doubles, Exeter with stood a solid challenge from Timberlane at #1 and #2 doubles. Exeter doubles team had success when they put a high percentage of first serves in and allowed their teammate to make plays at net. At #3 doubles, Ryan Posternak showed a great and powerful return game allowing Lino to finish points at net. Exeter will travel to Memorial on Wednesday.

Guen, Lietz, and Cloyd were mentally sharp and self-motivated throughout the match. Lino Cantarella and Jack Darmody used steady play to win at #5 and #6 singles.
In doubles, Chip McNaughton and Kenny Schleicher improved to 2-0 on the year with a solid 8-4 victory. At #3 doubles, Connor O’Hurley and Chas Rickarby each won their first varsity match. Rickarby used a strong serve to control the game. Exeter will host 3-1 Salem on Friday.

Match Recap:
Exeter improved to 5-0 on the year with a hard fought victory against a solid Salem team. The match was what Exeter needed, a contest where singles and doubles match were close and mattered. Lino Cantarella and Chip McNaughton got Exeter off to a 2-0 lead with convincing victories at #5 and #6. Ty Cloyd and Ryan Posternak won close matches at #3 and #4 singles. Ty’s experience paid off, winning the last 4 games. Ryan had the match of the day, winning 9-7. The match was back and forth the entire way, but Ryan was able to close the match out with a crosscourt forehand winner. The win gave Exeter a critical 4th point heading into doubles.
In doubles, Ty Cloyd and Corey Guen played their best match of the year at #1 doubles, winning 8-1. The easy victory clinched the 5th point. Corey and Ty are beginning to form into a tough doubles team, with good poaching and great team chemistry. Ryan Posternak and Lino Cantarella won at #3 doubles 8-1. Lino and Ryan’s net game allowed for a lot of easy points. While losing their first three points of the season, the match allowed Exeter to experience some pressure points, which is exactly what they are going to see in the upcoming weeks and playoffs.

Exeter improved to 6-0 with a 7-2 victory over Memorial at home. Exeter was able to win the match in singles play, by winning #2 thru #6 singles. Impressive victories were completed by Chris Lietz, Ty Cloyd, and Chip McNaughton, who won their matches 8-0. Lino Cantarella also won easily at 8-2. Ryan Posternak won the clinching point at #3 singles, 8-4. At #1 singles, Corey Guen trailed 0-3 but was able to take a 6-5 lead before falling 8-6 to a good opponent.
In doubles, Exeter’s regular #1 doubles team of Guen/Cloyd continued their undefeated season winning 8-3. At #2 doubles, Ben MacDonald teamed with Kenny Schleicher to win 8-2. At #3 doubles, Alexander Jefferson and Chas Rickarby trailed 4-1 before making a comeback that just fell short, losing 8-6. Exeter will travel to Alvirne on Monday.

Exeter remained unbeaten with a 7-2 victory at Alvirne. Exeter was able to finish the match in singles play by winning all six. Corey Guen trailed 0-3 at the beginning, but regained composure and was able to win the last 8 games. Guen was able to be more patient in points allowing the game to come to him, instead of forcing it. Chip McNaughton led 4-3 before winning the last four games, 8-3. Ryan Posternak trailed 5-2, 40-love, before coming back to win 9-8 (3) in a tiebreaker. Ryan is becoming familiar with close singles matches this year. Chris Lietz played strong early, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. In doubles, Chris Lietz and Ben MacDonald played their best match of the year winning 8-3. Ben and Chris controlled many of the points at #3 doubles. Exeter will travel to defending State Champion Bishop Guertin on Wednesday to face their toughest challenge to date.

Exeter improved to 8-0 on the season with a 7-2 win against Bishop Guertin. Exeter was able to win singles position 2-6 to secure the win before doubles started. At #6 singles, Chip McNaughton played his best match of the year, winning 8-1. Chip mixed some steady baseline with an improved net game to win convincingly. Ryan, Ty, and Lino all led by at least four games before allowing their opponents to get back into the match. However, all were able to hold for victories. Chris Lietz made quick work at #2 singles winning 8-1. In doubles, Ryan and Lino played their best match of the year, playing proactive tennis at net. Both were able to change the direction of the ball often. At #3 doubles, Ben played a great game at net by hitting controlling volleys.

Exeter improved to 9-0 with a 6-3 win versus Winnacunnet. In singles play, Exeter had certain players step-up and their game to win. At #1 singles, Corey Guen played his best match of the season winning 8-2. This is a great sign for Exeter, as it will need Corey playing at the top of his game to advance in the playoffs. At #3 singles, Ty Cloyd won 8-4, getting a critical 4th point heading into doubles. Ty did a great job keeping the ball deep and hitting dippers when his opponent approached the net. At #5 singles, Chip McNaughton continued his great playing winning 8-0 quickly. Chip is playing his best tennis of the year. At #6 singles, Kenny Schleicher won his first varsity singles match of his career winning 8-2.
In doubles, Chris Lietz and Ben MacDonald scored the fifth and winning point at #3 doubles. Chris and Ben are forming themselves into a strong doubles team with great communication and teamwork. At #2 doubles, Lino Cantarella and Ryan Posternak won 8-6. Ryan had a great day returning, using the down the line to great effectiveness. Exeter will now travel to Nashua South on Wednesday.

Match Recap:
In the most exciting match to date, Exeter was able to defeat a dangerous Nashua South team 7-2, improving to 10-0. Impressively, Exeter was able to win the match in singles. Corey Guen, Chris Lietz, and Lino Cantarella each had roller coaster matches, where they had leads, lost leads, and then came back to win. Corey and Chris demonstrated the ability to learn from past experiences and kept a calm demeanor during the uphill climbs in their matches. Chris was able to pull out a victory after solving how he would handle a wide array of slice and drop shots. Corey correctly shifted from aggressive play to patience play, keeping his opponent off balance. Lino came back from 6-7 to win 9-7. Ty Cloyd and Chip McNaughton won the first two points of the day. Both played very well to win by a solid margin.
In doubles, Guen and Cloyd won at #1 doubles 9-8 (7-4), after trailing 4-7 in the match. Guen and Cloyd remained positive through many close games which they lost. Their character willed them to victory. At #3 doubles, Chris Lietz and Ben MacDonald won 8-6. Ben served excellent and had strong volleys at net. Undefeated Londonderry and last year’s #1 seed in the tournament travels to Exeter on Friday.

Match Recap:
Exeter lost its first match of the season to undefeated Londonderry 7-2. Londonderry was able to win 5 out 6 singles to close the match before heading into doubles. However, Exeter closed the gap compared to last year and had some matches that are winnable if these two play again. At #6 singles, Chip McNaughton continued his strong play with a 8-3 win at #6 singles. The win moves to Chip to 8-0 on the season. Chip’s steady play and gritty play is giving his opponents trouble. Ryan Posternark played his best tennis of the season falling at #3 in a tiebreaker. Ryan’s improved two handed backhand and more aggressive play allowed him to dictate points and be on the offensive. At #4 singles, Ty Cloyd had a back and forth match. Ty trailed 6-7 before losing his last game. However, it is match that Exeter believes it can get the next time.
In doubles, Chris Lietz and Ben MacDonald won at #3 doubles 8-3. Chris used an aggressive forehand to create many errors from his opponents. Ben, again, was solid at net. Chris and Ben have formed themselves into a very good doubles team with good communication. Exeter will look to continue to improve themselves with three matches next week before playoffs. Exeter will travel to Spaulding on Monday.

Exeter improved to 11-1 with a convincing 9-0 win at Spaulding. Exeter was led in singles by strong performances from Corey Guen, Chris Lietz, and Ty Cloyd. All three started well. Ty Cloyd was especially strong, not dropping a game, demonstrating his readiness to play and execution. Chris Lietz was able to control most points with a strong forehand. After dropping the first game and adjusting to his opponent’s flat forehand, Corey won 8 out of the next 9 games.
In doubles, #1 and #3 doubles cruised to victories. Both teams served well, getting a high percentage of first serves in. They will need to continue this serving throughout the playoffs. At #2 doubles, Lino Cantarella and Ryan Posternak trailed 4-1, before elevating their play to win 9-7. Lino’s serve was difficult to return. Exeter will now host Pinkerton Academy on Friday.

Match Recap:
Exeter improved to 12-1 win a 8-1 win over Pinkerton Academy. Exeter won all six singles. Ty Cloyd continued to his stellar play with an 8-1 win. Lino Cantarella played his best singles match in the past few matches winning 8-3. Corey Guen and Chris Lietz both played well to win by convincing margins against solid players. Chip McNaughton faced his toughest test of the year and responded by winning the last three games to win 8-6.
In doubles, Exeter was able to mix some new doubles player to gain some varsity experience. At #1 doubles, Tyler Russ and Connor O’Hurley won 8-5. The two have been playing well in practice lately and were able to carry their success to the match. At #2 doubles, Kenny Schleicher and Alexander Jefferson won easily 8-0. Zander demonstrated the tremendous skill he has as a tennis player. At #3 doubles, Nick Mancini and Alex Vacca battled hard but loss 8-4. Exeter will finish the regular season on Saturday at Keene, in a critical match for playoff seeding.

Match Recap:
Exeter finished the regular season with a 7-2 win at Keene against a likely semi-finalist team. Coming off our third match in three days and a 2 hour bus ride, Exeter did not let any excuses get in their way. At #1 singles, Corey Guen played possibly his best match of the year winning 8-4 against a very good player. Corey was able to win key points during long service games. Corey’s ability to not lose two games in a row was essential. At #2 singles, Chris Lietz dominated his opponent with an 8-0 victory, winning many points by setting up his forehand. At #3 singles, Ryan Posternak trailed 5-6, before winning the last three games. In the last game of the match, Ryan came up with some clutch passing shots when his opponent came to net. At #4 singles, Ty Cloyd trailed 4-1 before fighting back. Ty still trailed 6-7 on the change-over but was able to regroup as he has does so often this year and win three straight games to win 9-7. At #6 singles, Chip McNaughton was able to gain the 5th point for Exeter winning 8-3. Chip played steady tennis and was able to be more consistent than his opponent.
At #1 doubles, Corey Guen and Ty Cloyd won 8-4. At #3 doubles, Chris Lietz and Ben MacDonald trailed 7-8 but were able to hold serve and force the match into a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, Ben hit some excellent crosscourt forehands which dipped at his opponent’s feet. Chris’s forehand was a big weapon in the match. Chris and Ben were able to pull it out 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

Match Recap:
Exeter advanced to the semifinals on Thursday with a convincing 8-1 victory against Bishop Guertin. Exeter was able to win singles #2-#6 to clinch the win. The storyline of the day was the play of Ryan Posternak and Lino Cantarella. At #3 singles, Ryan Posternak had his most dominating win 8-0. Ryan was sharp throughout, not allowing any mental lapses. As a freshman, this was a big step for Ryan and a good sign for his match with Concord. At #5 singles, Lino Cantarella had been struggling a bit in singles. Lino was able to find his game once game with solid play. Lino was hitting the ball instead of just getting it back in. Lino was able to attack his opponent’s second serve leading to some easy points. Ty Cloyd and Chip McNaughton did their normal great work, both winning 8-2.
In doubles, Tyler Russ and Ben MacDonald teamed up at #1 doubles to win 8-6. After trailing 5-2, Tyler and Ben got more balls in and attacked the net. At #2 doubles, Zander Jefferson and Jack Darmody won 8-5. At #3 doubles, Connor O’Hurley and Chas Rickarby held on to a 9-7 win. Exeter will host the #3 seed Concord on Thursday in the semifinals.

Match Recap:
Exeter advanced to their fourth consecutive Division I State final win a hard fought 6-3 win against Concord. The key singles match of the day was Ty Cloyd. After getting off a terrible start, Ty trailed 1-6. But Ty was able to fight back and find some energy to win 9-7. It was the comeback of the year for Exeter. Ty showed tremendous grit and resolve. Ty’s win gave Exeter a 4-2 advantage heading into doubles.
In doubles, Chris and Lietz and Ben MacDonald & Lino Cantarella and Ryan Posternak each finished their match at the same time to propel Exeter to a 6-3 win. Lietz and MacDonald led throughout the match, while Ryan and Lino won the last three games to win 8-6. Exeter will play in the championship match on Tuesday, May 29th at Bedford High School.
