2012 Season Review (NHIAA Division I State Finalists)
Despite returning only one player who played both singles and doubles from the 2011 State Finalist team, the Exeter boys’ tennis team was able to return to the Division I final for the fourth consecutive season. Exeter finished the year at 15-2, with both losses coming to Londonderry, the eventual champion. Despite the Finals loss, Exeter again proved to be one of the top programs in the state with excellent players who exhibited great sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication. The season was highlighted by a semifinal victory vs. Concord. The match of the day was a Ty Cloyd comeback singles victory at #4 singles after he trailed 1-6.
Corey Guen/Ty Cloyd and Ryan Posternak/Lino Cantarella both qualified for the Boys State Doubles Tournament. Guen/Cloyd advanced to the Round of 16. Corey Guen’s efforts at #1 singles and #1 doubles also gained him regional recognition as he was awarded the Portsmouth Herald’s 2012 Seacoast Male Tennis Player of the Year. Another highlight was Chip McNaughton’s perfect season. McNaughton finished the year with a 16-0 combined singles and doubles record.
